July 26th, is National Disability Independence Day, marking the anniversary of the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, or ADA. Much like the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the ADA affords certain protections for Americans with disabilities that protect them from discrimination, including requiring reasonable accommodations from employers for employees with disabilities, and requiring many public spaces to follow accessibility guidelines.
Disability rights and accessibility are hugely important to us here at Howl. Looking out and advocating for the people in your community with disabilities is just one component of being a good neighbor.
Whether or not you or anyone in your household has a disability, we hope you’ll take the time today to think about what you can do to help and accommodate those who do in your community.
